Endorsements
- Don Frantz, Cary Town Council, District B:
"Parental involvement is the number one indicator of a child's success in the classroom. That's why I support the WSCA's efforts [to endorse] a community-based school system that will foster increased parental involvement, stability for all our children, and greater choice for all families."
- Keith Weatherly, Mayor of Apex:
"I fully support the goals of Wake Schools Community Alliance, including their efforts to elect Board of Education representatives who believe that communities, families and parents are of the utmost importance in a child's education. Collectively, parents, taxpayers and elected officials from throughout Wake County are coming together to bring common sense back to our school board."
- Ron Margiotta, Wake County Board of Education, District 8:
"I agree with the goals of WSCA and their intentions regarding the WCPSS. Without question, we must bring fiscal responsibility and be more responsive to the public, parents and children of Wake County.
- Lisa Boneham, Founder of CCLP (Concerned and Committed Leesville Parents):
"I am so excited about the formation of this Alliance. CCLP's mission was originally focused on the Leesville Community, but throughout the past 3+ years I have come to know hundreds of other concerned and involved parents from all over Wake County. What we have found is that we are all caring parents who are concerned that the current School Board as an entity is not serving the needs of their customers, the families of Wake County. This alliance will work to ensure that the actions of the WCPSS School Board are logical and transparent. The end result will be a focus back on teaching and learning, coupled with much more family-friendly policies in the future. I feel honored to be associated with such a dynamic organization."
- Vinnie DeBenedetto, Holly Springs Town Council:
"I stand proudly with the Wake Schools Community Alliance because it is the collective voice of “We the people” speaking out on behalf of parents across our county in the name of fairness and parental involvement in the education of our children. The WSCA is comprised of dedicated volunteers; all working to ensure your voice is heard and recognized by the Wake County Board of Education.
Please join with me, and hundreds of others, by becoming a member of the Wake Schools Community Alliance by adding your voice to ours in the name of We the people."
- Northern Wake parent:
I can't imagine ANY parents not supporting this alliance. With such a family-friendly and all-inclusive mission, I see this group doing GREAT things for all of Wake County's families. It is really exciting to see it coming together. This group will not only work to elect family-friendly candidates. They will be the "watchdogs" to insure that the candidates follow through on promises AND they will support the candidates once in office.
- Dick Sears, Mayor of Holly Springs:
"I totally support the direction and goals of Wake Schools Community Alliance. It is time for change. We must support and elect good solid candidates with a verve for this assignment."
- Ronnie Williams, Mayor of Garner:
"In my long time experience dealing with the School Board, I have come to believe they are not responsive to the citizens of Wake County. If things are to get better, we must involve organizations and groups such as Wake Schools Community Alliance. I'm 100% in support of your mission."
- M. McAdams, Wakefield High School parent:
I can't THANK YOU enough for all of the work the WCSA has done. I see you are really trying hard to be inclusive and to LISTEN with an open heart and and an open mind to ALL parents. I love the fact that you admit you don't have all the answers but that you're trying to find a solution that works for everyone (or at least as many people as possible) - and recognizing that by putting a bunch of great minds and committed people from all walks of life on the job, that we can do it!!
You have my FULL support - my only regret is that being in District 3, I cannot vote in this election (even though this latest fiasco of a reassignment has our high school re-assigned to District 1... go figure). I will be making a donation, however, and will do my best to spread the word. As you're going around to all the districts up for re-election, don't forget the other non-voting districts. Even though we can't vote, we can offer our personal and financial support. We're ALL in this together.
- J83, N. Raleigh parent:
I can't help feeling though, that as a non-minority parent, if I express what I want or what I feel, that I will be labeled racist or an elitist. (Which I am neither) So since I did not have a chance [at the Wake Forest meeting], here goes....I want a community school system with a variety of programs and classes that educates all students at all levels. I think kids should be grouped by ability and pushed to their farthest potential. I want common sense to be employed when it comes to assigning my children to schools and once their assigned I want to know that is where they will stay. I want to stop feeling like I am a bad person because I want these things for my children. I will support WSCA and those candidates that are willing to put the issues out there and not be afraid of the reprecussions that will come. I feel I do not have a voice in our school system because I am not a minority or have a child with special needs. My family works hard, pays our taxes, has never expected or accepted one dime of assistance from anyone and yet I feel like people are pointing the finger at us and my neighbors and saying shame on them, how dare they not accept the status quo. I want a candidate that is not afraid to have the discussions and finally give average families like mine a voice....my opinion...since you asked.
